Love the City

Irish author James Joyce explained that the intention of his work was “…to give a picture of Dublin so complete that if the city suddenly disappeared from the earth it could be reconstructed out of my book”.

Love the City discovery phase was bred out of a similar ambition. Tasked by Dublin City Council to find out more about what attracted visitors to Dublin city centre, Designing Dublin spent 13 weeks mapping assets, interviewing key stakeholders and developing a better understanding of the city from a user’s perspective.

By gathering this wide range of perspectives, we were able to construct a rich, faceted image of Dublin city. All of this work was presented publicly both as an informal exhibition and as a book; which I designed alongside Designing Dublin creative director, Vanessa Ahuactzin. The Love the City publication reveals many of the processes we used as a team and tells the story of how we arrived at our picture of the city.
